CAPSA Healthcare – SlimCart Tablet Mount
Medical environments demand precision, reliability, and ease of use. Doctors and nurses depend on equipment that adjusts smoothly and stays exactly where it is positioned. Many medical OEMs rely on Moffatt to develop mounting systems that integrate seamlessly with their devices.
“Moffatt is superior to all. We work with a broad range of vendors because building these carts is a little bit like building an automobile, having to integrate all of the components from different manufacturers. We were amazed by Moffatt’s quality of work and rank them at the very top of vendors we’ve worked with.”

The Challenge
CAPSA Healthcare designs medical carts used in hospitals and patient care environments. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company developed a slim mobile cart that allowed patients to communicate with family using tablets.
The challenge was finding a mounting arm that was flexible enough for easy positioning but strong enough to hold a tablet securely for long periods.
The Solution
Moffatt engineers designed a custom mounting system tailored to the SlimCart. The solution used a vinyl-covered flex arm paired with custom mounting plates at both ends and a tablet cradle.
The arm allows caregivers to reposition the tablet quickly while maintaining stable positioning during use. The design also balanced flexibility with durability. This ensured the tablet would stay exactly where patients needed it without sagging.
Engineering the Details
When mounting with a flex arm, achieving the ideal positioning depends on the quality of the mounted base design. Our engineer developed a unique angled bracket assembly using a standard AMPS plate. This not only supported the tablet in the ideal position but also allowed the arm to approach the bracket from below in a vertical position.
The arm was articulated with their current Slim Cart surface and positioned to maximize its strength. Considering the needs of healthcare workers and insights from CAPSA’s team, we proposed including a swivel mechanism. Now, the arm and tablet could be rotated with ease (our Quick Coupler Base did the trick).
Testing and Collaboration
We appreciate the quality required to develop medical-grade products. Once we found a satisfactory design, we quickly shipped samples to the CAPSA engineering team. Their team could perform performance testing and identify the optimal flex arm strength.
Throughout the process, our team was readily available for conference calls, greatly expediting it. Issues were quickly identified and solved, and design recommendations were easily proposed.
The Results
The new mounting solution enabled hospitals to support hands-free communication for patients and staff.
Key benefits included:
- Stable positioning for tablets during video calls
- Easy repositioning for nurses and caregivers
- Durable construction for daily hospital use
- Lightweight design suitable for slim medical carts
Beyond the technical solution, the project demonstrated how thoughtful engineering can improve patient experience during difficult situations.
What CAPSA Had to Say
CAPSA’s slim cart was in the field. It was a success with healthcare workers. We didn’t realize the profound impact it would have on patients and their loved ones.
“When coronavirus came along, patients were put into isolation and nurses were improvising by using their own phones to let them communicate with their families. Then flex arm to the rescue. On the Slim Cart, the tablet and arm spins around 360 degrees where it could bend over to face the patient, even when they were lying down.”
